Our Response: A Commitment to Racial Equity

Our Mission

To recruit, develop, retain and engage a diverse, high-performing team.

Our Pledge

Our business enables bright, committed people to work in partnership within an environment that allows each person to achieve at a high level. We commit to encouraging and valuing inclusivity because every partner contributes unique perspectives that help us best serve our clients. By fulfilling this pledge, we believe we will exceed the expectations of our employees, clients and shareholders.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Council serves as a means for employees to connect with one another to promote a greater awareness and understanding of inclusion and diversity across the firm. With the oversight and support from CEO, Chad Abraham, the DEI Council is co-chaired by James Baker, Managing Director and Co-Head of Investment Banking and Capital Markets, and Managing Director in Fixed Income Trading, Joanna Brody. The DEI Council works to advance the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Mission to recruit, develop, include, retain and engage a diverse, high-performing workforce

Meet the Co-Chairs

"My mission is to ensure we have an environment that allows our employees to bring their whole self to work and only by doing so will we be able to continue delivering exceptional customer service."

"I’m thrilled to be working with people from different backgrounds, experiences and working styles that allows each of us to learn, grow and share different perspectives. Diverse views make for better decisions and drive a high performance culture."

Employee Resource Networks

In addition to the DEI Council, the firm has cultivated the following Professional Resource Networks as of 2020:

Recruiting Diverse Talent

Seizing Every Opportunity (SEO) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to create a more equitable society by closing the academic and career opportunity gaps. SEO Career is the nation’s premier professional development program, preparing high achieving Black, Latinx and Native American college students for challenging summer internships that lead to coveted full-time jobs. This is done through intensive coaching and training to help students succeed, and unrivaled metrics and a track record as a pipeline for underrepresented, entry-level talent in corporate America.

Career Exploration Program (CEP) is Piper Sandler’s hallmark diversity recruiting program: an annual, two-day informational event held at our headquarters in Minneapolis. The program is a pipeline for our summer internship opportunities across seven nationwide Piper Sandler offices. The CEP application process is open to students from all majors and disciplines and is designed to attract high-achieving, diverse candidates, which includes female, Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Asian, veteran, and LGBTQ students.

Piper Sandler MBA Fellowship Program is an opportunity designed to enhance participation from full-time MBA students from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, women, LGBTQ individuals, military veterans, and people with disabilities and provides them with a financial award for exceptional achievement and a summer associate internship between the first and second year of business school. Recipients receive an additional award upon receiving and accepting a full-time associate position.

Greenwood Project Rotational Internship
Our rotational internship, through our partnership with the Greenwood Project, is a program designed to give rising juniors exposure to careers across our business lines and help them discover if a career in finance is right for them. The rotational internship program is a 6-week program and interns will divide the 6-week program in multiple locations and business lines. The internship will provide the opportunity to shadow and work alongside professionals within our business, work on meaningful projects, and meet with senior professionals across the firm. Interns will also be paired with mentors to serve as guides throughout their experience. At the end of this program, participants will be able to explore an internship for the following summer in the location and business line of their choice, with potential to lead to a full-time position post-graduation.
